Wally
very simply a canopied boat has far less visibility versus a regular boat. I can see 360 degrees in my boat. I can only guess that one can see far less with a canopy and its supporting members in the way. As to why the ban on the river, my guess is that because it is narrow it allows the canopy boats to only worry about looking directly in front or back. That would give them the confidence to go faster.

My fear is that this will bleed into the whole chain having speed limits and size restrictions. Let's face it. Thru technology we now have the ability to go faster than ever before and the boats are getting alot bigger. I grew up on the Chain. I remember when the biggest sport boat was a 21 footer.

Time to get proactive and try to lessen the changes.

Thanks Big Dan

Smitty...good point...didnt think about the visibility thing.
I know the chain is decient size...i jet-skied there for 5+ yrs before upgrading to boats so i know it like my back yard....but there are a few boats that dont belong on the lakes (size wise) And while i hate the thought of imposing any restrictions on thelakes they do need to look into possibly making a size limit o nthe chain.....hell back in the day i was almost run over by some idiot in a 42 fountain (it was white) that was taking a right hand turn in that area along the rail road tracks on Nippersink lake that run along rt-12. That entire area is like 4' deep and there were 4-5 of us just chillin out, floating along....i was the only one on a standup and couldnt get out of his was fast enough....the others bolted....the spray off the end of his boat knocked me off my ski!!!! That was probably the scariest situation i have ever been in.....and the guy never saw me or anyone elase cause at the speed he was going the nose was too high to see infront of him properly.....

Thanks for undertanding guys. We all love the rooster tails and hearing the boats rip it up. We just don't want to see it taken away. We live here.

Have a safe weekend.

I saw the guy with sunsation at Fast freddys when he first got his boat. He tied it up with no fenders directly on the concrete wall, the boat was bouncing with the water and scratching the heck out it. I thought I would tell him and his group and he treated me like an a**hole(probally because I had my work clothes). I sat there a few minutes and watched the mitcherT paint work get wrecked. When my buddy told me he rolled the boat on thew s turns on the river, I wasn't surprised. What a waste of a boat and all the work it took to build it. and hey earthworks maybe you should go to tres martins school and learn how to drive Before you end up in someone's front lawn on the river and ruin it for everyone. Money is not a subsitute for brains or driving ability.

He is cooperating with them fully as he is concerned about the future of powerboats on the chain. The law is 75 DB. I have DB meter and at the end of my dock the noise level can be in the 80's with Bayliners going by. I am afraid this is going to get worse unless we show are are trying to make an effort to be reasonable boaters. Please Dan slow down and get some mufflers.

That would suck for Mike, he would have go up to Ben Watts or Bald Knob to launch. I've seen him flying on the river with his new boat I wouldn't be surprised if some complaints were about him. All people see is the canopy boat and the roost. I'm not saying he is unsafe at all, but that boat is very hard to miss.

"Why would they ban only canopy style boats?"
I believe this is being influenced by the guys in charge of the "Hooter Meter"
They can't get a good look at the ladies on the boat, and rate them accordingly.

Besides, why do you want a canopy boat on the chain, I enjoy the 360 degree of boobage viewing........... that's why I go to the chain.

I saw this boat on the Cal-Sag channel just before you get in to the Big Lake, today. Its real clean looks to be in top shape. I would have liked to see him rip it up but we were in a NO WAKE heading in opposite directions. I dont know this guy but his ride is sweet.
