Keep in mind, the 502 mags and the HP500s shared the same bottom end, the difference was the heads, cam, intake and exhaust.
Jimishooch, I have the article somewhere. give me a fax and I will send it.

I don't know if this helps any but I have a 1999 38' Scarab AVS w/ 500EFIs. The motors have some induction work, it's rigged 2" high with 2" IMCO shorties spinning 30 pitch labbed Bravo's. I'm just playing with this combination but this weekend in moderate chop I saw 83.9 GPS. That was me in the boat, half full of fuel. My boat is also 40% Kevlar layup.

You definitely need something. My old carb'd 500HP boat was running Bravo 30 4 blades at better than 82mph. That was around 5200-5250 rpm as I recall

Michael... my boat is also quite a bit lighter being a Kevlar layup. I talked to a man that moved up from a 1996 38 to a 38 AVS, both with 1200s and #6s and he said the non-stepped boat wasn't terribly different at all minus the weight differences.

interesting, I was under the understanding that the avs was about 5-7 mph faster pound for pound. There are not too many comparisons here on oso that people take between the hulls.

Michael.... and who knows with his setup also. Not many of us have 1200s and #6s. My boat is for sale... and extremely reasonably priced if you know of anyone interested. I have my eye on something new and have to let her ride.
