Default Holding tank for water

The original owner warned me of this but I forgot. We were filling up the water tank yesterday and the next thing we notice was water was in the cockpit. For some reason Sonic does not vent the water out. They put a hose about a foot long. When you overfill WATER runs into the side areas. I don't want to drill a hole in the side of the boat so I thought about running the hose to the sink drain sense it drains outward. I guess I am just lazy. I could watch the tank and shut it off when it close.
I just thinks its a poor design unless I am missing something? I really don't want to cut a hole in the boat . But I DON'T like the way the water vent is at present. Any other ideas. I don't see a reason why they did it the way they did. If I am missing something please tell me.

Thanks
David

Mine has a vent just like the fuel vent; from the factory. I would just worry about contaminating the water supply connecting it to a drain like that. Might look for a one way valve for it.

I connected both my water tank vent and the dash cooler drain to the galley sink drain. Works fine if you don't mind gurgling sound through the cooler when the water is running. I didn't like water from my tank on my sub woofer and I didn't like the cooler draining in the bilge. I know my friends 02 still has no through hull fittings. VERY poor design. But those 2 things are the only faults I've found with the boat.

The water tank is vented and the cooler drains overboard on my '03 31SS.

Mine is not vented either..... founds thing kinda damp in the side lockers and figured that is where it came from.
Unfortunately the cooler on the bigger Sonics are on the Starboard side....no where near the water tank & filler on the port side.

Im with Vagrant, dont like the idea of drilling a hole in the side to vent it. I just watch when filling the tank. I beleive mine holds 25 gallons, for a 42' ?
