He was talking about ride...Not that his 490HO were faster than the 700SCI TG. In my opinion the newer Top Gun doesn’t ride as well in the rough as the new ATs. I have been in both in 4 foot in both and and was in AT in 6-8's with an occasional 10 footer.

We really need to go for a ride; either here or in Florida.

The way the dual-hull (DDC) rides is just indescribable. The step comes to a very sharp point at the very center of the keel; the line that is followed from the nose. From the step back to the transom is a somewhat flat pad, that has strakes built into it for accurate tracking. This basically allows the sharp point of the step to land first, and split the water in two, and then the pad carries the boat straight and level with no chine-walk/teeder. With such a dramatic single step, the boat ALWAYS, ALWAYS turns on this one step, at 30, 50, 70, 90 mph. Boats with multiple steps get into a disagreement with the driver on which step to pivot on, at any given situation, and this is how multiple step boats get out of shape in turns. I'll leave it at that. The AT is a single 4" step. Some of the other manufacturers are using 2-2" steps for the same level of efficiency, and angle of attack. Its a pretty well known fact that Cigarette and Fountain did NOT get their single step hulls right. Its a shame that too many folks think a single step does not work, just because they did not get it right. Again, all you need is a ride in some snot to understand.

The 33, 37, and 43 use the same design bottom. The 33 is literally a 9/10s scale version of the 37; not a blocked off mold. The 43 is also designed and tooled from scratch.
Here is some information on the architect of the DDC hull:

And the patent itself: High Speed Planning Hull Re. #36879

I can see that you are shopping. There are a couple solutions we can work to get you into a new or nearly new boat. I think you will have thoughts similar to Macklin once you go out for a ride. If you don't have my number, let me know.

Wink

I've been reading this thread for a few days now and have been to the Active thunder shop and seen some awesome examples of their boats. If the 496 question for performance and overall value the Active thunder owners out there might want to consider upgrading their 496's with our 525hp kit.
With a good set of headers and the kit they d yno at 570HP and they'll run long and hard like stock 496's. Nothing like adding 300HP to an Active Thunder hull! Just some food for thought?

Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

Ok...so I'm a little behind...any chance I could get the special boat show OSO Sydwayz pricing as well on a 33 with H.O.'s and 525's? We're boatless and shopping at the moment...33 seems to be the compromise between her 30 and my 38...have just browsed some classifieds on the Donzi33 as well. Thoughts?

Brian,

Thanks!

What's the used market like now? Have heard things 100K or above are pretty slow (both new and used)?

I would like to know roughly what the 33 loaded with HO's runs as well. We are shopping for boats in this size range.

Thanks,
John
