Taking our AT to Florida for the first time around December 6th for a week. Does anyone have any good areas to go or safe travel info for the Southwest side of Florida, such as Sarasota, Clearwater and even down to Marco Island. Just looking for some nice places to go via water while we are there.

Im sure alot of the Florida people will help with this.
We trailered down to Clearwater area which is nice and they have one of the top 5 Beaches in the US just north of Clearwater. They also have a intercostal waterway down to St. Pete. There is resturants to tie up to between Clearwater and St. Pete.
Then you have Tampa Bay to.

There is a ton of good boating in the Ft Myers area and on South of there. Bob and Shari Smallwood are there in Cape Coral with there 37. I'm sure they would be glad to show you around. Give me a call if you would like a contact #.

Poke around in the Ft Myers Offshore Forum - you'll get plenty of info.

South Seas Plantation in Captiva/Sanibel area is very nice. There's a great boat ramp and lagoon to keep the boat safe in. Lots of little restaurants, great hotel/condos, tennis, beaches, shell collecting, and wildlife...dolphins, manatees, birds, gators, etc. You could use it as home base and keep making day trips to the north and south! Make sure you have good charts, the waters are tricky!
