Size on trailer
In the process of designing a new home we have enough room on the lot for a garage bay, just for the boat. I'm hoping that there is a 33' or a 37' in our future and I was wondering, how tall do I need to make the door opening? Our 28' just fits into our current 8' door. I'm sure that 10' would work, but this is an attached garage and for aesthetic I'd rather stay to 8'6 to 9' if it'll fit. Also depth, what do you think I need overall, outdrives to trailer tongue?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

If you are buildning new then I would go 50' deep 12 wide and min 9' door but 10' would be better. Just my 2 cents. I built 30 x 50 and should have gone 40 x 60 or just stop buying more toys.

I was going to build a 30x50 to begin with, drew it all out on paper and was full to the hilt, I built a 30x75 and put an addition on the side 14x65 and its perfect. Go with the biggest door you can , trust me!!
When it comes to a garage , BIGGER is ALWAYS better!!

You are right on, i am adding 14 x 50 on the side and have 12 x 12 doors, just never seems big enough does it, I would at least use a 12' wide door if you can fit it in.

Thanks for your replies. I was planning on a 12'x 9' overhead door. And I have it drawn at 20' wide x 46' deep. This space is going to be used for a shop- cabinet making, storage etc. and then in the summer (both months here in WI) I'll sweep up the sawdust move the tools to the side and keep the rig at home. I have access to a 70' x 120' shed that our 28 resides in now. But there's nothing like the convenience of havin' her at home w/ the rest of the family.

46 deep will be close if you move up ta 37 with trailer , my 32 is 39' with the trailer, i have a 30 X 46 garage now with 9' high by 10' wide doors and i have no problems getting in but i dont have to back it in as my building is set up to drive in one end and out the other and that is real nice.
But as the other guys said bigger is always better

Thanks for the replies... I have to try to stick to a 9' high overhead door. This is going in a subdivision that has architectural controls. We are doing our best to blend in as much as possible but still enjoy our short summers. Guess this will rule out Formula's and BT's!

You can also cheat a bit. James/Excursion had to do this. He had trouble getting his BT in his 10' tall door. He dug a "divot" into his driveway that allows his rear truck wheels to drop a few inches JUST as the windscreen on the BT clears the door.
A tall ceiling is most important. You want to be able to move inside the boat when its inside. 12' tall ceiling is minimum desirable height.
I can't remember where I saw it, but I saw a picture of a beautiful home once that had 12' tall door for an RV, but it blended in with the rest of the 9' tall doors of the rest of the house by having "shutter" like pieces that folded over the top 3 feet of the door from either side, and the "shutters" MATCHED the rest of the facade of the house. It was awesome, but I can't find any pics.
