600sc and air intake
I was looking around the engine bay of my new Tantrum and noticed there are really only 3 openings for what I call "make up air" (vents)
I was thinking a big block with a blower and two carbs would need a bit more air than that, no?
Would I be wasting my time putting in a couple more vents.. or am I just missing something.
dumb question number 2:
is it still power steering fluid in the pump?

ATF or Dexron for the PS. Don't you have 2 vents on each side?

Thanx Pat, that makes sense, I thought it was a bit too red for PS fluid.
Theres one vent per side, two holes, one hole is used for the blower.
I was thinking more vents to the battery compartment and then to the outside.
Theres only room for one vent per side

Its been fine for 11 years. I wouldn't worry about it. The carbs are 800cfm(cubic feet/minute) each. Unless you are going to do a hatch scoop, I doubt you'll notice any difference.

If I'm thinking right, the first 28 with a 525 was running a little short on clean air so there may be something to this. Take her out for a few wide open runs, one with the hatch down and the next with the hatch cracked just enough to let some air in. It can't hurt anything, it won't cost anything and it will answer your question.

I seem to remember the spec is 2-3" of water vacuum in the engine compartment max. How you would measure it I don't know. My old procharged Baja ran faster with the engine hatch cracked!!! Hit the throttle, trim button, tabs and engine hatch switch all at the same time.

If you run w/ the hatch cracked open, put a line over the front of it so there's no chance of it blowing open.
If you have a cushion on your hatch, w/o going to a scoop, i don't know how you'd get more air in there.
pantera has been putting NACA ducts on the outer sides of the hatch, and making the pad narrower.

I got to see a hatch blow over on a 28 Prototype during the Cumberland run a few years ago. I can tell you they can go from engine hatch to swim platform real fast too.

Dayum, I can fit two 850's without scoops, and the vents are just fine
