Default 28 AT Savage vs Velocity 290SC

The time has come. I know two different hulls, but quality vs quality? The Velocity has a 496ho will do a solid 72 or 73 on gps. The Savage has a 525 and will run about the same. has anyone here owned both? I know the Savage will handle big water much better just wanting all the info before I pull the trigger as this saga has been going on for a couple of months now I have all the pieces in place to purchase. The Savage is a 2006 the Velocity is an 08. any info will be helpful.I do most of my running in the gulf sw fla area and occasionally in the Keys. Thanks.

Both are great boats. However, you will appreciate the AT over the Velocity the instant you get into a bit of rough water.

Which 2006 Savage are you looking at?

I looked at the Velocity's and liked them alot as far as the deep cockpit and the cabin but after watching them run and talking to a few people I went A.T. as you know.
What they say about the rough water handling is very true and the Vol is a Pad boat that gets kinda scary at high speeds they are a boat you have to be on your toes all the time.
Believe me get that Savage you will never look back, unless you are looking back at all the Pad boats you will be passing in the rough.
Pad boats are faster for sure untill you get in the sloop and they will be backing off as you just keep going.

Good Luck I hope you get it, and by the way have you looked long and hard at resale?

Given your boating location, I'd say hands down the AT.

Good friend of mine has a 290. Beats him to death in the Ches Bay slop.

Default I would say A/T

I looked at and drove a velocity 280 but bought a 28 Savage, I liked the ride better, however, in this economy if the velocity is cheaper I might consider it..

I don't own either but have driven velocity and been in the ATs. you are better with the AT its more forgiving boat to drive better rough water ride also feel its bigger true 28 no fg swimplatform. the 290 is a drivers boat there a pain to keep on the pad, rougher ride smaller boat. now about motors someone said you were better with the 496 WHAT A JOKE, THE 496 IS A PRODUCTION MOTOR THAT HAS HAD PROBLEMS, Thats why merc is bring in a new motor to REPLACE IT for 2010 a 502. a 525 blue motor is a HAND BUILT MOTOR that makes on the average a true 550 to 560hp will last a long time with new valve springs between 250 to 500 hours, I have heard of people going that long. the blue motor is that much better. now if you want the badest 28 buy a SABER 28 JUST KIDDING there hard to find and I just bought one I am putting a KONRAD ACE DRIVE and DEAN GELLNER 572 BLOWER MOTOR in it. which has no pad. and my last boat of 19yrs has a pad a baja 24ol with 650hp and most pad boats want to chinewalk over 75mph unless you have full hyd steering, oh I bet the AT has the steering option with the 525 motor. and yes I am the guy who sent you the PM, I didn't want to hurt anyones feelings on the velocity forum. and don't want to see you make a mistake so buy the AT and enjoy yourself plus after a few seasons of going mid 70s if you want to up grade your motor you can easy, but with the 425ho you need all new guts inside where the 525= with a blower add on your at 750 to 800hp. a cam/intake/carb/heads your at 725hp.or up grade the efi/cam/heads your at 750hp all stuff DEAN DOES WELL. GOOD LUCK and keep us posted same money AT 28 525 with a B BLADES custom prop maybe 76 to 77 mph.

I respect all the comments just looking for opinions and yes I am leaning towards the A T as I really like the 525 along with the I T S and XR drive. Also I understand and know the Velocity hull is much faster and more efficient,But drag it out to the slop and wave bye bye. Trying my hardest to make the AT deal just a little more attractive to me. the seller has been working with me to make this deal work. My biggest concern is the up keep of the 525 and all the CMI issues I have been hearing about.
