What is under the rubber flooring to give it more cushion???

What is under the rubber flooring in apaches that make the floor have sooo much cushion????????

Gym mat rubber. I just did this to my boat carpet. I bought 3 rolls of 1/2 inch matting for yoga mats at the sporting good store and glued it to the bottom of my carpet with automotive emblem adhesive, flipped it over trimmed off the excess and now your feet dont hurt even after being on the boat all day!

CLOSED CELL FOAM IS UNDER PERILLI TYPE RUBBER FLOORING...M.M..
