Angry STARTER MAKING "LOW CYLINDER" SOUND?

Just Had One Of My 575's Pulled At Innovation For What Sounded Like A Dead Cylinder While The Engine Was Turned Over. (not Running) Engine Had 230 Hours On It And What Seemed Like A For Sure Stuck/bent Valve Turned Up As Nothing When We Pulled The Heads. No Valve, Rocker, Pushrod, Camshaft, Gasket Or Any Obvious Cylinder Damage To Be Found. Yeah, I Know We Should Have Leaked It First But It Just Seemed So Obvious That We Didnt Bother. We Have Come To The Conclusion That It Could Be A Ring Gear Or Starter Problem. (worn In One Area To Cause A Change In Pitch While Turning) Can Anyone Back This Up?

Did the motor speed up or slow down while cranking?

Usually if the motor slows down a valve is not opening. If it speeds up, one's not opening or a head gasket leak.

Pumped up lifter or a sucked in valve? Hard to believe the ring gear is the problem but ya never know. Good luck, tell Rick I said hello.
