Need help buying a 4L80E GM Transmission
Just bought a 2500 silverado. Its a little older but got a STEAL on it....I need to replace the tranny...It has the 4L80E in it. Truck is a 4x4. I have the opportunity to purchase from a buddy at Advance a rebuilt one with a 15000mi/15mo warranty. For about $1400. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on SOLID aftermarket tranny manufactures. Im not sure how well the Advance one will hold up.....If I could get a MUCH better one for no more than $16-1900 I would consider it. I got a quote for Sallee Chevrolet for a HUGHES transmission for $1664. Anbody heard of HUGHES transmissions before? Any other suggestions will be appreciated. Here is a link to the Hughes Tranny

Thanks in advance guys...

When I worked fleet maintenance, we gave yp on buying motors ot trannys from anyone but the OEM. There are some good aftermarket and private trans shops out there, but the warranty and backing you get anywhere anytime from the OEM's is well worth it.

Oh yeah, you cant beat those quailty GM trannys with the OEM torque converter clutch problems, which is probably why this one went bad. GM trannys are junk in my opinion, get an upgraded one.

Well after MUCH looking I went with the GM based on no-shipping charges and warranty of 3yrs/100,000 miles. From what I have been told by EVERY shop they have had MAJOR upgrades since 92...Every shop I talked to said that the updates have made the transmission much much better.

Jasper has an excellent transmission program with a 3 year 75K mile warranty. They also test every tranny out on a tranny "dyno". Price includes new torque converter.
