2003 merc 300x's w/sport lowers.
While taking props off last night i noticed a little play front to back on the prop shaft. Is this normal? Should there be any ? If not how do we rectify it? Sorry to sound like an idiot but havent owned an outboard since the mid 80's
Thanks
Thanks

The service manual says end play on the prop shaft should be .045'' but when I bought a new in the box sportmaster from merc the end play was more like .080''. Both of my lowers are about the same with no ill effect. The end play is set by the reverse gear thruster washer but merc only offers one washer. I think you are OK so don't worry about it

Mark If you look at the shift linkage there is a netural mark where the cable connects. Center that mark put your control in netural and adjust the cable so it slides on, simple!
