Ok Was at Wal-Mart the other day and they had a house brand Full synthetic oil for the same cost as a brand name Dino Oil. Who’s oil is it? How can they sell it at half the price as Mobile 1?

I don't know, seen the same thing too. Often wondered the same thing. Good question though. Is synthetic oil all the same? Synthetic is synthetic, right?
I still use mobil 1 when I run synthetic.

I believe Hydrocruiser here on the board had a big thread about the same kinda thing here last year.
Can anyone else that remembers it chime in please?

WalMart's brand of fully synthetic oil is called SuperTech and it is packaged by Warren Oil Company.

Now Warren is a "re-packaging & blending" company...mostly anyways. They do not just sell their products. They do not blend a fully synthetic so it is another product repackaged. Which one..who knows?

It may be synthetic but, with what additive package?
Its hard enough to keep up with a big name, Mobils oil package can change frequently. As for a small company, who knows. Base stocks are the foundation for the house, additives are the stripppers inside the house.

I have used Super Tech in my truck and cars for several years .. now these are my daily drivers... but seems like a good quality oil ... I have not used the Syn ... I do remember seeing a oil filter test and the super tech came in very high ......m

In the "old days" I woudl try most anything...with reduced ZDDP levels you need to test an oil before you use it in a boat or a car that you intend to keep.

In general using oils that are NOT intended for cars is the best way to go. The auto/diesel oils are very high in ZDDp...the higher weight oils too such as 15W-50 or 20W-50's. Nothing beats motorcycle oils.

For cars Mobil's 10W-40 Synthetic motorcycle oil is about the best thing going. That's what I would use in any car I was keeping or in a performance vehicle. ZDDP is around 1800 ppm.

Many auto oils now have ZDDP levels of 300-400 ppm....that means lots of wear that could be prevented.
