Anybody ever use silicone or 4200 when installing a gimbal. Putting it on dry has me a little worried. Since the gimbal is used the soft gasket around the housing is pretty flat.

No silicone, put it on dry it will not leak. Make sure the surface is clean first. Silicone should never be used below the water line. Any other caulks are unneccessary and could cause problems. I've installed many gimbal housings with this type gasket and never used anything on them. Never had a leak, which is why they tell you to install it without sealer.

I just installed my first two just a week ago.I used a little grease that the merc book said to use on the seal and it worked out great so far.

I usually use a little 4200 just to feel better about it, although I have installed dry in the past with no problems

I would look for a new gasket and skip the silicone.

You don't mean transom bracket assy do you?

Thanks for the reply. The gimbal seal is just crushed so much that I was afraid I wouldn't get a tight fit against the transom. Thats why I figured a little 4200 would help the seal.
