Default Trim Sending Unit

I have a bravo one drive with fauria gauges. My trim gauge hasn't worked since i bought the boat and this past weekend the port side trim sending unit broke off the side of the outdrive. Now the plastic "puck" is just dangling on the left side of the outdrive by the two wires that lead into it. I eventually want to go to mechanical actuators, but for now how do I get this "puck" off without taking the outdrive apart?

I bought a replacement, but I don't think its worth doing all the stuff thats in the instructions since i never used it anyways. I just want it out of the way.

Just to clarify, there's no electrical worries? I can just cut the wires as far back as I can reach and let them be?
