I am looking to install oil temp guages on a pair of Gen 5 454's. I need to know where the sensor goes on the engine. The best answer I have gotteon so far is a "T" connector off the oil pressure sensor hole by the distributor, but something tells me that is not right. Any help is apprecieated. Thanks.

Theres also an oil pressure port just above the oil filter/ adapter, you could use that if you don't want to tee in...

You don't want to tee a temp sensor with the pressure sender. The oil there is not moving so you won't get an accurate temp reading. You want to put it somewhere where there's oil flow, like a remote cooler line.
People on this board have said they put a fitting on the oil pan to mount the sensor there to get a better reading. Just make sure you put it where oil is circulating.

If motors are apart then put a fitting in the pan. Some like to put sender in return oil after cooler. Better yet mount 2 sensors so you can check hot oil in and cool oil out to motor.

Couple of other options if these are stock set up as you did not say.

You could mount sensor in remote filter housing. I have also drilled and taped for a temp sending unit by pulling the adapter for remote oil cooler - filter lines off. You will see pretty warm temperatures if mounted in adapter as this is from pan - pump and also prior to oil filter and cooler. Just soem other options. Most coolers will see about a 30 degree drop in temperature.

I would not tee into pressure sending line either. Just be carefull that sensor is in oil flow but is not restricting it where ever you decide to mount.
