Question Setting Timing Delco Voyager

I Removed the EFI from my 502 and iam using the delco distributor that was used with the EFI. I purchased the pigtail to set base timing. I set base timing to 10 degrees, the module is suppose be 22 degrees, but iam only seeing 22 degrees total at 3000 rpm. Shouldn't I be seeing 32 degrees ?

I just did the same thing and can't remember for life of me the advance of the module. I do remember the advance was all in just before 2800rpm to 3000rpm though.

Sorry for the pea brain.

Now I know why I don't remember. Took me a second. On the dyno I set total timing and did not worry about initial. A few dyno sessions later I installed a Crane HI-6M (i bypassed the module - just used the magnetic pick-up).

So I'm of know help other than saying the HI-6M is the cat's azz !!!!!

yes you should be seeing 32 deg total timing if set at 10 deg advance base timming, try taking it up to 3400 rpms and see where you are at ( thats about the top of the advance cure possible)

Re: Setting Timing Delco Voyager

I set the total advance to 32 degrees the engine idles better, thottle response is better and the the engine sounds better, cranks and starts good. I am just worried I am missing somthing. I dont want to damage the engine by over advancing. Base timing is now set to 20 degrees! I reved engine to almost 4000 rpm but wont advance any more.
Thanks for your helpful responses Scott

If you are checking base timing, be sure that you shut down the engine, remove timing tool and then restart before checking advance.

If Voyager is used without a computer, I believe you don't need to use the 'timing lock out' tool. The module inside computer works like other modules (like a TB IV) does.

I went the HI6M because of choices of advance curve, rev limiter, and etc. Really is a great upgrade !

You still need to use a timing tool for a precise adjustment, the Delco Module will be advancing a few degrees even at idle speed.

When using a delco voyager dist without computer, just module inside distributor.I want to do base timing I know I have to plug in the lockout tool. Here is my problem do I ground the wire or do I put the wire to positive. Dennis Moore book says to ground but on internet it says to hook up to positive on u tube and other sites Any body know cause I don't want to burnout the distributor or module
