HP500 EFI Oil Temp Question
Hi,
I just installed new XR drives w/ IMCO lowers (built by Mr. Gadgets). My oil temps come up to about 180 when my water temp is around 155 to 160. After running this way for 2 or 3 minutes, my oil temps will drop to about 160 as well and will stay this way until I drop off plane and idle at which time my oil temp will go back up to 180 or so and my water temps will drop a few degrees.
I can't remember what my oil temps did before the drive upgrade. Anyone know if what I'm seeing is normal? Does the oil cooler have any type of thermostat to regulate oil temp?
I've tried measuring the pressure by tapping into a plug on the water pump, but it reads 0 psi. The guage is good, but I'm wondering if I'm measuring the wrong place.
I also added strainers w/ pressure relief valves. the valves are dumping water from the strainer before the sea water pump and are advertised to be 15 PSI to 40 PSI. Could I be running too much pressure causing the oil to over cool once on plane?
Thanks,
Garrett
