The article in Powerboat...................

After reading the article in Powerboat last month, I'm wondering what went wrong?

Thanks

Re: The article in Powerboat...................

Nothing went wrong, poor choices of words and just not very good journalism is what happened. Everyone has seen the Dragons run and knows that if one is running like they said the test boat was then there HAD to be mitigating circumstances. I don't think there was an attempt to smear or defame, I just think that the article wasn't really thought out before they put it to print. I dont believe a majority of what i read and even less if it is a boating magazine, if you want solid info on a boat you need to see it drive and crawl all over it yourself IMHO.

Re: The article in Powerboat...................

From the data I've seen this is a pretty fast boat so I would agree there had to have been some kind of mitigating circumstance.

I thought it was strange that the article conveyed how the EXPECTED performance of the boat was not met, but there was no explaination as to why. I would have thought that with a boat that you have test data on, there could only be a couple of things that would logically make it perform so badly and those things would be fairly simple to fix. I'm sure the people at Dragon would have known what the problem could have been (or been able to find it) and I would think that they would be more than willing to make it right, but I don't recall any mention of that.

In short all the article says is that the boat was a slug and the guy saw fit to spend another $200K to make it run the way he wanted.

The whole thing just seemed odd to me.........................

Actually, there was some things that went wrong. They (PBM) just didn't throw anyone under the bus. The article was very straight and to the point actually. The boat didn't meet expectations. No they didn't go into details. The point of the story was that the problem was fixed and the boat runs better than ever.

There was a whole thread on the issue a while back. Craig and Co. stood by their product and made the customer (Eric) very happy. End of story.

And Joe. The problems were with rigging that Dragon had done out of house. The article didn't go into that because again, that was not the point of the article. Hope that helps answer your question. I've been in a Dragon. They are great running boats and ride/look amazing in person.

Yup this is what happened, but what you gotta do is set yourself apart from this informed crowd we are a part of and think of average Joe boater that has the means to purchase a Dragon level powerboat but doesn't know about OSO and doesn't have friends like Tank and Metal Bros to consult on these types of things, these are the people that didn't get the whole story on a botched rig and instead of knowing it was an isolated incident, these albeit few potential customers may now very well have prejudices towards a brand that doesn't deserve the label of "slug" I'm not slammin PBM by any means and I'm not a Dragon cheerleader, I am an advocate of truth though and I think selective journalism is BS, tell the whole story for better or worse, were all big boys and can take care of the rest, agreed?

Re: The article in Powerboat...................

Agreed MBR. I think its a shame how an article like that can prejudice people simply by not stating the facts thereby leaving answers to what are logical questions up to anyones imagination.

I understand what you're saying and agree to a point. There are a lot of politics involved that like it or not are still there. I don't think PBM wanted to focus on blame. They wanted to show that the boat is awesome and runs like a raped ape. Also, I hardly think someone in the market for a Dragon would be un-informed in the least. This isn't exactly an entry level boat. Not to mention (as I've stated several times) if you were seriously considering a Dragon and had questions about Erics and what went wrong, both Craig and Eric are available for comment.

Not really. Yes, he paid Teague around 200k for new dry sump SSM VI's and new Supercharged Teague motors. However, he got a full refund on the 525's and ITS's. That's a large chunk of coin.

Now look at it this way. He didn't pay anymore than he wouldn've if it were rigged this way to begin with. And as pointed out several times (also mentioned in the article) Eric still got a custom built, show stopping, VERY FAST boat for under the price of other high end custom boats. The only thing that sucked about the whole proccess was the frustration and delay Eric had while the boat was getting re-rigged.

But in the end. The customer was very happy. And you wont hear him say anything negative about Team Dragon.

Re: The article in Powerboat...................

I read the article and it was written in a way that slammed Dragon and made Teage Custom Marine look like a savior to someone who thought they wasted their money. Dragon got bad press.

Re: The article in Powerboat...................

...In the end there was nothing "wrong" with the boat, it just needed some dialing in and soon would have been an awesome ride with the 525/ITS package.
Yes i was very interested in a Dragon myself and therefore did a lot of research in talking with both Craig and Eric. It was stated by Eric that it wasn't the boat and Craig is an awesome person to deal with !

At any rate the finest product remains to be one of the nicest & fastest pleasure V-hulls out ! - Agreed ?

Dave

P.S- Prouty needs to jump on one !

Re: The article in Powerboat...................

Dave - You mean get a ride on one? There is another Dragon listed for sale....Dave, you bought to soon....

Dragon could not have gotten a nicer customer.
Eric took care of the problems and now has a great boat. I was in it many time while at Teagues and the boat is sweet.

Why are you biting your tongue Chris? If you have something to say about it, say it. All I'm saying is the facts. Powerboat didn't want to focus on blame. Just wanted to focus on the repower and how nice it came out. End of story. If they focused on fault for the original problem it would've looked bad for all involved. They felt it wasn't their place. It's easy to point fingers. It just wasn't appropriate.

Now, what's this I hear you bought something Dave!? What'cha get? It's about time!
