50 amp breaker at motor

50 amp breaker at motor
I have had this happen twice to me now. At night I blow the 50 amp breaker on the motor which controls all the power, so I end up dead in the water. It only happens at night with the increased load of lights etc. Funny though it never happened last year, and I have changed nothing since last year. Has anybody seen these things go bad ?? Boat is a 2000, so it is not real old. I am thinking of replacing it but I would like to know how to test it first.

Re: 50 amp breaker at motor
smitty, check for loose or dirty grounds. With the extra load of night running it will pop the breaker in a heart beat. Make sure your power and grounds are tight at the buss bar. Also check the power cable to the starter solinoid. Brian

Corrosion in the big wiring plug at the engine and connections will cause that problem. Clean them all and spray with some kind of corrosion inhibitor--Boeshield, CorrosionX--before you put them back together.
