Default Put drive on and now starter grinds

Trs drive was real hard to get on the last 1/2 inch. Now that the drive is installed every other time i go to start the engine the starter will grind. If i click it a couple of times the bendix will engage totally and crank the engine. What would cause this? Drive shaft pushing against tranni and that pushing flywheel??

Hard to tell. The drive shaft goes in the trannie but this part as far as I know does not spin unless you engage the transmission. So I don't see why it would give a hard time to the starter to turn the engine. So, I would guess a starter problem.

Anyboby else? I'm just a beginner with TRS on my boat...

No way are the two related, pull the starter to find the cause.

you may only have shims if the starter is mounted to the block like it would be on a car/truck application. Most TRS setups i've seen or dealt with had the starter mounted on the top/rear of the bell-housing......installing the outdrive shouldn't have any affect on the starter or flywheel....there's something else causing you problems...maybe the starter bolts are loose...or a chipped tooth on the flywheel....or the starter itself is going bad...
