Merc 454 oil pickup help needed
Hi Guys,
First post here, been lurkin for a while and bought some heads of a member awhile ago.
I got a mercruiser 8 quart alum oil pan to put on a 454 i'm building for my Wahoo 26.
Using the melling hi vol pump.
Mercruiser pickup is part# 809772T and $40.00
Problem is I can't find one and don't want to pay $40 ;-)
Does anyone know a cross ref part that I can use instead.
I'd rather get a $8 moroso pickup if it will fit.
Thanks, in advance.
PJ

Re: Merc 454 oil pickup help needed
The block is a '88 454, .30 over, stock crank and rods. Pickup will be welded to the pump.
I have added roller cam, roller lifters and roller rockers. That's why the Hi-Vol. '99 Gen5 heads with my special pocket port. Crane springs, retainers, Low rise intake (I got no room under the doghouse), Quadrahog, ya-ti ya ya.
Should make around 400 horse @ 6000
Plenty for my 26" center console Fishing boat. She weighs in fully loaded at 9000 LBS. Should give me 29 MPH@ 3600 rpm burning 17 GPH. Perfect for those 30 mile runs to the sword grounds.
Not as fast as most of you guys but it does the job.
I will measure the depth of the pan tomorrow.
