Guesstimates on 502MPI 415HP gain over 330HP
Got a line on a low hour 502MPI 415 hp.
Going 57mph now on the 330hp.
Would the extra 85 hp take me to 65 or 70 with an ideal prop?

IF you are dialed in now then you should see 63-64 with the right prop. If you're off a little now maybe more. The right labbed prop might get you 65.
Don't buy into the "20hp for 1 mph rule". Every boat is different.
I have found this calculator to be very accurate if you plug in your current info and get the constant for your boat. Then using that constant plug in the new hp and calculate speed,

You should get there because the 502MPI is rated 415 at the prop and the 330 is actually closer to 300 at the prop. I would guess that you will get 8 to 10 mph from the change, maybe even a little more if the 330 is tired. I agree with noboat about the 20hp per 1mph it is not always going to work like that but sometimes you get lucky. Chris

I agree with noboat, I think you will be lucky to see 63MPH. That is if you are really dialed in with the 330HP right now. Again, it will very much vary on the hull, weight, and prop you are running now. It sounds like a nice upgrade though.
Good Luck

Re: Guesstimates on 502MPI 415HP gain over 330HP
I went from a 330 to at least a 420 do not know for sure on a 23 nova spyder. Supposed to run 62 from factory HAHAHA I didn't gps the old engine but I bet I was lucky to be running 55-56 at the most. Now on GPS it is running 66.1 with a 24 labbed bravo 1. I was told by people running with during the summer I was around 73. my speedo said 69 and they told me that they were right on. Now since I have the gps they they are backing off on how fast they are

Baja's are no speed deamons to begin with, they take a lot of extra HP to gain speed. My best guess with an extra 85 hp would be 64 mph, no chance for 70, a 25 outlaw only averages 66-67 with a 502...

An 89 240 is the same hull as a 24 Outlaw, maybe a couple hundred pounds heavier. The best you will see with a 502/415hp is 63-65mph and thats 100% dialed in with a labbed prop.
