I use the merc High Performance gear lube.....Buy it in 5 gallon buckets and change it every 25 hrs. Some may argue that something else is a little better, but regular changes with Merc's fluid should last as long as anything.

I think so...now 'm going to have to walk out to the garage to check. I know it has to be ordered since most places stock it in quarts. It's usually about 9-10 bucks a quart.

And BTW:
I bought a cheap $7 hand pump that fits right on the 5 gallon jug spout. Put the drive fitting on that hose and each compression of the larger pump mores 4-5 times as much fluid as those crappy little quart pumps plus you don't have to switch bottles 1/2 through.

Downtown,

I've used the Redline Shockproof Heavy and had real good luck. I think it was a great formulation and I noticed a difference in the "clunk" when shifting. The major problem with it was that it would expand/contract SO much with heat...reservoir on the verge of setting alarm for low drive oil when cold and after about 30 minutes of run-time the reservoir was almost full. Needless to say I switched back to the Merc. High Perf. stuff.

I have been using Merc Hi-Perf gear lube with no noticable issues. For next season, I am going to try Royal Purple Heavy Duty Gear lube along with 5 oz of Prolong Engine treatment. From what I have been told, that is supposed to be the way to go.

I like to use the Mercury Hi-perf gear lube and add some Problend gear oil additive. Seems to be working very well in our customers hi-perf boats.
