Default My SBC Upgrades I have settled on. What do you think?

Ok, I’m trying to get 74.99999 (Class 5 Race Boat) out of this set up when finished – I was looking to add horsepower without pulling the engine out and apart but that don’t look like it’s going to happen. My boat is a 99 Scarab 29 with Twin Mag.350/300hp MPI motors matted to Bravo lower units. Right now I’m running 67 to 68.5 (GPS) in fresh water. This is my winter upgrade list

Lightning Headers – (HP & Weight savings)
Edelbrock Aluminum Heads (Also Lightweight & more HP)
Edelbrock Cam & Lifters
Tyler Crocket Re-Mapped ECU
Throttle up lab finished props

I was told by a few engine builders that my EFI & manifold unit is good to 400hp so I should only have to have it re-programmed to adjust for the increase in volume. If you’re wondering why I’m choosing Edelbrock it’s because I work at an Edelbrock distributor, not a dealer, that’s who we sell to. So I can get the stuff at a very, very good price.

The above parts should not only help increase HP it should save 284lbs in total weight over the stock heads and exhaust (that’s both motors).

Well, what do you think?

Ok, so no one runs a small block any more..

But it looks like this set-up will put me over my 74.99 speed limit bye alot so I may need to tone it down or prop it down.

any small block owners out there I'll keep ya posted.

I would think with the Edelbrock heads and cam along with the headers you will be running in the mid to upper 70s but you could tweak your speed with different props. ECU mapping will probably be your most reliable speed tweaker. Try the exhaust and heads first but if you're set on pulling the motors you might as well do the cams.

I keep getting conflicting comments about that, some say do the cam and keep the vortex heads seeing as they work so well.

which heads were you planning on using? the performer or RPM's probably won't do too much but the Victor JR's will make a ton of hp. Maybe just try the exhaust and ecu and see what happens.

I had a few people tell me to just bolt up the pipes, remove that stock flame arrestor, re-map the ECU and send my props to throttle up and I should (should) get 72/73mph. But I plan on running the boat at a few OPA races next year and would like to be close to the 74.999 speed limit (or even just a little over)

I'm not sure on what heads I would get, I guess which ever works best ... If the Victor Jr. make the HP than I will go with those, But I was under the impression that the heads or any performance head would never perform to its true potential with out a matched camshaft.

I would agree the the cam statement. The victors will probably flow a lot better than stock iron heads though.
Picking up 5 mph with exhaust ecu and props is a stretch but I think it's doable. I've run a P-29 scarab with 350's and blackhawks and it's a nice hull.

The P-29 is a much lighter hull lay-up, almost 900lbs and the black-hawk only added to the performance. That P-29 in stock condition would run an easy 75mph.

I should have also mentioned (Headers, Filters, ECU, Props and Bottom Work)
