steering issues...help
somebody helped themselves to my steering system before i got my boat, so it is missing a couple things, being new to boating, im not really entirely sure what goes where.... it is an 89 fountain with trs drives, there must be somewhere to see like online microfiches or something so i can see what all i need, so far what i see..... pump bracket and lines are there, but no pump, and the pump lines are not connected to anything at either end, i guess i need a steering ram or something, the tie bar is there, on the transom on the outside there is no hoses or anything else steering related, the only hoses i see are all the braided lines for the tabs. please help an idiot here....

looks like your rams are gone . They should go from the mounts on the transom to the mounts on the drives, below the tie bar. The lines would go from the rams to the fittings in the transom. What do you have on the inside, and behind the steering wheel. If it is full hydraulic system there should be some hydraulic lines going to the helm behind the steering wheel. If there is a cable at the helm to the back of the boat then you have hydraulic assist. Hope this helps.

so then what about the inside of the engine compartment, there is no pump, and whatever attaches to the pump as well, lines and everything are all there, just whatever, is it best to just buy thge peices to make it all work or buy a complete steering kit with everything new?
i have not seen any hydraulic lines going to the helm.

rams, outside hoses, PS pump/pumps, HP filter(?), reservior(?).
Hard to say what you need on the inside w/o actually seeing what's there. Also take into consideration the condition and age of the hoses that are there. Will still need PS pump either way. Does it look like there was only 1 PS pump being used?
Do you have a steering cable going to the transom assembly? (determining what type of system you had)
