Switch back to mechanical fuel pump
I have electric pumps on stock 454's. The boat had diff engines in it but now has stocks back in. The two fuel pumps are hooked to the purple and white wire in the wirring harness, this doesnt seem right to me. I dont like the electric pumps and want to do away with them i think. I have no idea how. They have been a headache because of where they are wired too, I think they get shorted out because the purple wire is what connects to the coil, which goes ground also.

You can run both electric and mechanical at the same time.
Mark IV engines still had the pump on the engine. Without looking in a manual I think they put the pump on the sea water pump on Mark V?
Also nothing should be hooked to the coil.
Do a search on your wiring, you will find several in the last month. Acutually one last week.

Unless you have Mark IV blocks, the only mechanical pump you can run is off of the sea pump. There is no provision for a mech pump on Gen V & VI engines.
A far as the wiring for the electric pumps, it sounds like they are wired so that they come on with power to the coil. They should also have a safety feature that cuts the power with no oil pressure. That way, they can't pump fuel unless the engine is running.
