Default holley 4010

I gotta merc 260 with the 4010 on it. My dad bought it 5 years ago and has never been in the water since then. It runs for 2-3 seconds then stalls. The carb is clean on the inside and floats do not stick. Fuel pump works too. I called Holley and was told that it was discontinued. Anyone know why? any suggestions?

I'm considering an edelbrock 1409. Anyone have any experience with this carb?

Is it the square bore or spread bore model? Electric choke ?

It maybe discontinued but you can still get a rebuild kit for it and have it rebuilt by a shop that has a carb soaking tank. Its cheeper to rebuild then buying new and having to maybe have problems making the linkage, fuel line and flame arrestor fit. Sounds like the idle passage ways are clogged up.

It is a square bore with electric choke. I tried a different carb on it and got it to stay running at 2000 rpms. When I changed it, I found that the back right hole for the stud on the manifold is stripped out. Probably sucking air you think?

When it was running, water was coming out of the exhaust, is that normal?

IMHO that carb is a POS. I could never get mine tuned properly. It would always stumble off idle among other things. Do you think that's why Holley only made them for a short time?

And yes, with through hull exhaust it's normal to see water comming out the tips.
