Default 496 Oil temp sender

I have a Donzi 35 ZR, 2007, with 496:s. Suggestions please. Is it there a simple way of fitting oil temp senders without having to take the motors out of the boat?

Wink Oil temp on a 496MAG or HO

Remove the remote oil filter bracket base and filter, drill and tap an 1/8" or 1/4" hole in the bottom area of the gap between the outside sealing edge and the center thread flange. Be careful not to thread the new sensor fitting in to far so it hangs up on the filter body when the filter is threaded back on!
This will allow you to read oil temp before it goes to the cooler which will give you a pretty good reading of the engine oil temp. Check all planned fitment and clearances before you start drilling and tapping and clean everything carefully to remove any drilling and tapping debris before you reassemble. Hope this helps.

Would this same procedure work on a HP500EFI factory upside down remote filter base? Right now the factory sender is "teed" off of the oil pressure sending unit and I am sure my gauge is showing the temp of cooled oil.

On your HP500EFI, where is the oil pressure sender located at. If its located in the system before the oil cooler then you will be measuring the temp at a supposed hot place, but the tee type fitting might not be getting a decent flow of oil over the oil temperature sender. An oil temperature sender should be located so as to have a constant flow of warm (hot) oil across it to properly show the real oil temperature at that location coming from the engine. This should give you the real oil temperature in your motor prior to it being cooled by the oil cooler. You should be able to locate a oil temp sensor in the same area of the upside down filter base.

Thanks for the response, currently the sender is " teed " of the pressure sending unit in the block just in front of the original oil filter mounting pad. I feel it is currently showing the temp of the oil going back into the system rather then after it has been through, thus showing me a false high (low on the gauge) temp reading. Currently shows in the 140 to 170 range when the cooler bypass cycles, with a constant water temp of 165 - 170. I will be putting a sender in the filter base in the spring and will inform all of the difference, thanks for the suggestion.
