Default Bravo 1 Drive Oil Question

I just had (2) fresh motors built, 572's to be exact and I'm going with a different oil set up from a company called Pure Power (www.gopurepower.com) - The owner Kelly is a oil specialist and he suggested to use his 15W40 which has more zinc than the competitors - he also said I wouldn't have to change my oil (after running hard) till at least 50 to 75 hrs - possibly even a 100. I already have his oil filters on my application (which are incredible) so I went will his oil as well.

This is my Bravo 1 question - he also carries a gear oil for the drives which is SAE 80W/90 which has GL-5 - would you use another manu drive oil or would you continue using mercury drive oil?

What's your suggestion?

Not exactly sure - I can contact him and see but I did find out that the higher the TBN reserve, the higher the zink count - competitors have a 7 to 9 TBN and he has a 12-14 TBN (Total Base Number).

I'm not on here to promote his product - I really want to know who on here has used it or has any experience with oils....

This guy really knows his **** and he has his product in all areas of speed and military use....

TBN stands for TOTAL BASE NUMBER. This for the neutralizing of combustion acids that end up in your oil.

The only thing I see is todays fuels have very little sulfur in them, so the TBN plays a much less important role than it did back in the days of high sulfur fuel.

TBN was really a diesel issue as the diesel fuel for years back had a lot of sulfur. The auto industry "picked up" on TBN as a marketing tool but it really has no relevance in a gas engine.

TBN is based on calcium, not zinc.

I my opion, TBN in modern engines with moden day fuels is a moot point.

Hang your hat on something else.

Ken
