Repower suggestions: 7.4 24' Sea Ray
I pulled my 1996 7.4 (Block has salt water damage: Gen 6 casting 297 with large oval 156 heads 119CC (carb engine)) an I am looking to repower with a bit more power.
Some of the sites list a 297 block with 279 large oval 100cc vortec heads
And possibly ditching the stock cast intake for an Edlebrock
Looking for ideas....
And does anyone have experience with any of the engine rebuilding sites on the web ?
Michigan Motors, Advanced Engine Exchange, or First Mate Marine ?
Thanks,
Rick

Quick, cheap and simple:
If you can find a set of Vortec's get them, smooth them and gasket match them.
Get an Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap intake, gasket match that too.
Holley 4160 Marine DP 750cfm (+)
If you have the TBIV Ign and it works, keep it. Upgrade the coil to an MSD Blaster 3 and put good (MSD 8.5mm) leads on.
Get a set of IMCO, EMI or (lastly) GIL manifolds and risers to replace your stock boat anchors. (Literaly, throw them over the side!) or a set of Lightning or CMI tubular headers if you can afford it.
Make sure your fuel system is up to the challenge and have done with it.
Once all that's in place, get a cam done up for your set up by RM Builder.
(Can I assume you have a Bravo1?)
I wouldn't push it more than that, it's a Sea Ray! (just kidding)

It is a Bravo 1. Pulled it because of overheating problems. When I pulled the heads the head gaskets holes were clogged up and also found chunks of the cylinder walls were laying in the water jackets (too much salt water over the years).
Wasn't sure whether to keep the 156 heads or go with Vortec (279)heads.
Thanks for the feedback...
