Default tRYING TO PLACE SUBWOOFER IN 31SS..ANY SUGGESTION..PICS?

I have a 12inch subwoofer in box shown in the thumbnail below. The are right infront of where the su is sitting is a hollow storage compartment accessed from the top bed. I am considering cutting into this and removing the sub from the box and placing it in there. At this point I am wondering how this hollow area (which is large eough air space for the sub) will act ith no baffles in it? Or should I try to cut it out enough to fit the whole box in there. I have always noticed that it gets better sound firing backards. What abou facing the sub into the compartment? Ay suggestions or pics of your sub setup would be gratly appreciated. I plan on doing this in the next weekend or two.
