Default 1075 SCI and Transmission?

I read a thread about a guy with a 46' Cigarette and 1075 SCI motors that use a 'Transmission'. Transmission? Why not just use an outdrive like an NTX or XR? This stuff is Way out of my league, but can someone point me to a thread that explains the use of a 'Transmission'?

Thx!

A NXT uses a transmission. Pretty much and outdrive other then a bravo or alpha uses a transmission. Most likely with 1075's he had #6 drives which use a transmission

The only drive rated for that much HP is an SSM 6. The only shiftable Merc drives are Bravo's and Alphas. All other require a transmission.
