Repower Question: 7.4 to 8.2: Will it work ?
I have a 1995 Sea Ray with a 454 (7.4) with a tired engine and have a line on a 502 (8.2) out of a 97 Fountain (Think all Fountains had Mags as well). Will it work without any mods ?
Think it will, Thoughts ?
Thanks,
Rick

I don't see why it wouldn't be a drop in. Just be sure you have the correct harmonic balancer and flywheel. Is the 502 a carbed engine? Engine, bell housing mounts and accesories will all be the same.

It should drop right in with no issues. Externally, the 502 and 454 are the same. The internals are just different. BTW, all 502's are "magnum" engines. Carbed black engines are 390hp and efi's are 415hp.

Repower update: Questions
Well the 502 turned out to be a 454 Gen VI. It is a late 90's Mercrusier rebuilt....the Mercury Marine tag number 061047 and has less than 100 hours on it.
1) Can any one with a Mercury Marine book tell me what the details are on this ?
2) It has Vortec heads....is there an carb intake/setup that will fit this ? (Do not think there is one but I figured I'd ask...plenty for SB's...)
Thanks,
Rick
