Default K-Planes

I have a 24' Formula 242 can I run 280 K Planes on it? Also, can I use the Bennet trim pump or does that need to be switched as well?

I know K planes usually have a pump for each plane, looks like a trim pump, I dont think the bennet pump is up to the task. I would put 280s on my 24ft baja no doubt.

I just put a 280k plane kit on my Fastech 271. Nothing in the Bennet system will work on a 280 system. 280s use a trim pump for each k-plane. The biggest problem with the Bennet system is that the pump is slower than Christmas anyways. The only thing that can be reused is the trim switches in the dash. Just a note.. Installing the tabs and running all the wiring and pumps is a HUGE job. I just did mine with the motor pulled out and it was no fun. Jeff Wurl

What does a good set of used pumps run? I'm going to have my engine out as well as drive and gimble. Everything is being replaced. So I'm thinking if everything is out I may want to replace the tabs. I agree bennits are SLOW! I really don't use the bennets much except to balance the boat and in rough water. Is this a wise upgrade?

I just seen a set of tab pumps someplace, I'll try to find them again. Make sure you get the correct pumps for tabs, not drives. They are valved differently but look the same. Drives are high volume low pressure and tab pumps are high pressure low volume.

By all means, yes! I went from Bennet's to 280 K-Planes on my 292 (which is really like a 27'). Major improvement in all areas. While you have everything out of the boat it is a great time to make the swap.

Wouldn't a trim pump from a pre-alpha work? I think its reverse what ever the bravo/alpha pump is. If so, I have one laying around, i would just have to find another, you need a pump for each right?

Not sure on the older pumps. I know the older tab pumps used the round metal can reservoirs the shorter ones since they didn't need much fluid to operate. I'll keep looking for the ones I seen awhile back.
