The rain cut the race short today. Steady offshore winds had the water whipped up and the guys got beat around pretty good for a few laps before race control pulled the plug.

Still managed to get a few decent shots, and before you mofos rag on me for all the noise in these shots... it ain't noise, it's raindrops.

That's right, I stood out in the rain for you with my brand new lens to get these. :drink:

I love it- it's everything I hoped it would be. Hope the sun is out next time.

Thanks, guys. Yep, there's a hole near the north turn.

It was rough everywhere out there today. (that's a guess. I couldn't really see all the way down the course...)

Jay,

Really nice shooting, thanks!

Remindes me of the old days of offshore racing, Point Pleasant NJ, Ocean City MD, and Key West.

Miklos and Gary know how to run a boat in the rough. Straight, nose down, keep it in the water. Can't go anywhere when you are in the air! Nice job guys!

Mike, I got the VR I version- looks brand new, very little use.
I'll take care of that 'new look' right quick. :drink:

Jay, you will love that 70-200 VRI. Very sharp and fast. I have had mine for a little over a year and is my favorite. It usually resides on my D-200

Try the Nikon 1.7 tel-extender. Makes the lens equivalent to a 120 - 340 and almost no loss in image quality. You do lose some speed but it still works out to f 4.8.

Again thanks for the great pics,

Thanks, Padraig! So far, I am totally impressed with it- can't wait to try it in a non-rain environment. Imax and Shaun K have been pushing me for months to get it, and some great friends in the offshore community helped make it happen after I destroyed my other mid-range. The teleconverter is next. :drink:

Awesome rough water shots, that's what blows the skirt up! lol

I bet the boys were sore today but hey, that's why they call it "offshore". :)

Jay,

What happened. I just saw you 2.5 weeks ago, and I thought I saw you shooting with both cameras. Which lens got 'destroyed'?

If it's ok with you I'll stay in the chopper for that one!

During the PRA run we launched and the 18-200 took a hit on the side of Alec's boat. I had both cams around my neck and needed one more hand than was available. :drink: I was using a cheap 18-55 on the FMO run.
