Default Hinge Pins Stipped/Gimbal Bellhousing

Repair shop states that they have drilled and inserted Heli Coil in the Bell housings in the past.
This is for a Bravo, stock 502.

Would anyone else consider doing this?

I need to do this to 2 bell housings. $1200
or
Heli Coil Kit $155.00

I have installed these in the past on farm equipment and seem to hold up.

One side of my gimbal has a heli-coil. Ran it for 4yrs. Just found out it was in there. Also check out jrmarine.com.

Helicoil is fine. Or you can have the hole filled, dril and retap it.

Doing more research on web and found that this can be done successfully.

Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with having this done.
Thanks for responding

There is a guy here in my town that drills them out then press fits a piece of threaded stainless in.He has done this many times.I also have a friend who had this done 4 or 5 years ago and has never had a problem.

What about having them drilled out and just going to High Performance Hinge Pins that simply pound in. The HP ones don't have any threads and are installed and removed with a slide hammer. Then all you would have to do is drill the bellhousing out the size of the hinge pin - not have to worry about threads, etc...??

Just found one helicoiled on mine, had to have been there about 5 years. On mine the helicoil came out when I pulled the pin so I am going to replace the bellhousing rather than trying to do it again.
