HP 500 (carb) upgrade options
What are my options to increase power on circa 1999 carburated HP500s with stock Gil exhaust? Based onthe water reversion issues supposedly caused by the big cam overlap and weak valve springs, it doesn't appear there is much room for bumping things up short of crazy compression or adding a blower. Has anyone had success with upgrades that don't have a major consequence on engine life? Also, has anyone added fresh water flush kit? How costly and difficult is this if the motors are currently in the boat? Thanks.

I added some gate valves in line with a garden hose connector has wroked great for years. Imo I would leave those motors stock or like stock. I mean they are hp500's we all dreamed of those. I had one and would get mad if i knicked the valve covers. But a good set of heads and just enjoy having that reliable power.
