Default Fuel mileage 454?

I know there's a million variables, but I'm running a 22' Formula with older 454 330hp bravo I and 23p mirage. The boat has an 8' beam and 22degrees hull. There's a couple trips I might try this summer but this is the first summer with the boat and I'm trying to figure out approximately how far I'll be able to make it on a tank. Anybody have any ballpark ideas at cruising speed what mpg or gph I would be looking at?

My boat is very similar. 23 foot Checkmate and I used to run a 23P Mirage back when I had the carbed 454 330 bravo in it. I could make it to my favorite beach/bar which was 40 miles away and back on a single 52 gallon tank and have enough left to be comfortable when I got back. That would always include a little hot-dogging but max conserve was around 3200 rpm when trimmed up and running on nice water. So figure you'll get somewhere around 100 miles max out of 50 gallons. Just a rough estimate.

It's funny but after upgrading to a 496 MAG HO and 28P bravo prop I get about the same milage. Just doesn't take me as long to get there. :-)

Start keeping track of how many GPH (gallons per hour) you use.

Fill tank, check hour meter, next fill check hour meter again. Divide gallons / hours

I've determined over MANY hours that I average about 11-12 GPH. So, rather than relying on an inaccurate fuel guage, I can get a good idea of how much gas I have by looking at the hour meter.

ditto....but I use the mileage shown on the GPS (does the same thing)

and BTW: I'm totally guessing but, your boat gets 2-2.5 miles per gallon or burns about that 11-12 gph Dave listed.

What RPM are you running at 35 MPH?

Ya, my average of 11-12 GPH is at various RPMs. Some idle, cruise, WOT.

If I recall, my diacom software showed me burning 14 GPH at 3500 RPM. Under good conditions, that puts me at about 55 MPH, and nearly 4 MPG.
