Hello !!
I have been hanging around, reading various tech articles for some time. I will be the first to admit, this engine project is not for a boat. However, my thoughts are, that the most durable engines, would be for off shore boats. Thus my reason for hanging out here. As a winter project I plan on building a 598 BBC using the following parts. I have just talked to Jim Valako on Thursday about porting the heads for me. I am located in Michigan approximately 50 miles from Jim.Please find the folowing links, concerning my intended parts for my build. This engine will be going in a mid engined sports car ( Lola T70mk3B replica), weighing approximately 2800 pounds. It will have a six speed transaxle with the following ratios. 2.61, 1.71, 1.23, .94, .77, .63 and a final gear ratio of 3.36. This transaxle is being used behind several 1000 hp turbo Ford GT's.
The 598, I am contemplating building will be using the slb block. This will be a street engine, with selected local track days working up to Road America in Elkhart Lake. What I am thinking is this.
SLB Block, with 60mm cam, dry sump, extra bolt pattern on the bellhousing, oil pan, and custom spring oiler valve covers

As this block does not have room for a distributor do to the relocated lifters, I will be using a coil on plug setup. I do make a front mount mag drive for the KB olds engine, but I do not have any extra room up front. The lifters are relocated in this block to allow for better pushrod geometry. I will be using LSM .937 keyed lifters. Jesel Shaft rockers specifically designed for these heads. And either Isky tool room springs or LSM endurance springs. The valves will be Ferrea titanium, and the super alloy exhaust. I may also replace the Edelbrock guides with the ones Ferrea offer .
I plan to use the new Edelbrock 18 degree heads here:
pro port versions, so my Jim can work them to get them some port velocity. Now ordered.

10.700 block, 4.600 bore, with a 4.500 stroke.
7.00 oliver rods, with 1.555 rod ratio
11.00 comp. ratio with 1.450 pin height
I have one of Jim Oddys pro mod blocks that is about 5 years old. He was using a 10.700 Rodeck with a 7.00" rod in a 526 engine. I want to use the long rod setup also.
Kinsler 8 port efi 2nd row down, third one in. I currently have both, the 2.990 and the 3.150 setup. I will have this converted to sequential. I will be using premium unleaded, and race gas when appropriate.

I currently have the fuel injection units, and have ordered the heads on Friday. The other block that is a possibility is found here.

Also, I realize this engine is quite impractical, and the same or more horsepower can be made easier. There is no room for a supercharger, and not really enough for twin turbos. I am looking for the 70's Can am look, with 2010 technology.
Any suggestions, good or bad, would be appreciated. Sorry this isn't boat oriented, but I have enjoyed reading the tech articles so far. The information I have read from the various engine builders is great. If you prefer to boot me because of this, I'll understand.

cant speak for everyone but alot of boaters are car guys also besides my catamaran costing a small fortune I also have a 1969 chevelle project to work on during winter

That is what I was hoping for. It just seems like a natural mix. I'll hold out, and see if anyone comments on my combination.
