Intake Gasket+ Manifold Leak, picture
I have some milky oil mostly around the carb air filter after a high speed run or after an oil change. Im running a hp500 with dart intake ,merlin III heads stroked to a 540. I do run a stock water pump + thermostat. What would cause these marine engines to blow the intake gasket? Does my water port look healthy enough to reinstall ? I looked at other treads and the intake gasket is the number 1 suspect.

you cant put them on dry, always use a sealer around the water ports..my favorite is the rite stuff, make sure you use a fast drying brake cleaner or lacquer thinner on all mating surfaces before install the gaskets..also make sure you seal all the intake bolts as well because they will either leak water or oil out of the center 4 bolts.. When i lat a bead on the front and the back of the manifold i always go from the lower intake bolt on the head across the block to the other lower bolt to the other head front and back..then i install the gaskets then touch each corner of the block before setting the intake on..then torque them to spec's and go over the bolts several times until their all the same torque then wile off the access sealer on the front and rear of the block...leave the sealer dry for 24hr before running the engine..

This is the felpro 1275 I just removed. Looks very ruff, I did not assembly this engine on the last rebuild. I remove the heads ect and all is well. All new gaskets, arp bolts coming this week. I was running 74.9 gps @ 4900 rpm with a BBlades 28p bravo 1 on very flat water. Best speed this season. I will have it ready for this labor day weekend.
