Don't know, but would think set-back boxes should be first. Running shorties right on the transom would probably be too high of an x-dimension.
I would love to hear a report of a 292 with boxes. I have asked around in the past, but got no response.

I have a pair of -2 shorties I am getting ready to list for sale. 1.25 prop shafts and heavy duty verticle shaft. All assembled by Imco and in extremely nice condition. let me know if you may be interested.

shorties might work if you change props to 5 Blade Maximus
but you have to go at least 2 `lower in pitch compared to Bravo 1 Props
I would also add boxes in combination with shorties or 3 `rise boxes and save money for shorties - but it is a lot of work since engines have to be lifted for installation - so straight boxes and shorties are way easier to install
