Impeller Smoked???
I had my boat out last Saturday and after coming off plane I noticed a slight burning rubber smell. After checking under the hatch I ran a little ways on plane and the water pressure never got above 10 or 12 psi. The temp. never got high (according to the gauge). I changed the impeller/housing 2 seasons ago. Does this sound like a bad impeller? What else would cause a slight burning rubber smell? Accesory belt??
Thanks.
Thanks.

Do you have rubber exhaust hoses? If so when the impeller starts to get weak, there is not enough water in the exhaust and you start to melt the exhaust hose. Happened to me once.

You more than likely smelled the inside of the exhaust hose that's starting to melt. As soon as you opened the engine hatch, fresh air cleared the odor away. After you run it hard, put your hand on the risers...they should be cool, to very slightly warm. If they are hot...change the impeller...then the exhaust hoses just to be safe. I'll bet one is toasty on the inside sir.
By the way....if you change the impeller, and one or more of the vanes are missing......FIND THEM !!!!
