Is there a way to tell if my power steering pump is going or gone?
I took off the belt and I can spin the pulley freely, Don't feel anythng but I hear wining when the motor is runing above 3000. and steering IS slugish.
Thx
P

Hi Peter. Yes, those pumps will whine when the vanes in them wear down. The uneven wear spots actually "bypass" some of the fluid under pressure backwards towards the low pressure side and cause the noise.

I think I have some water in the system. I have to figure out how to drain it, then check the pumps. The trans fluid is milky.
I had a leak in the oil cooler, replaced it, but I guess i didn't get all the old fluid out.

PARADOX, your PM box is full so I'm replying here . . .
I've got a couple of pumps on the shelf that came of 454/400 Cyclones - don't know if they are the same, minus the blue paint? Shoot me an email to [email protected] anytime.
Thanks,
Harry

Didn't see this post., sorry. I posted on the other thread.
The part I need is 849906A28 don't need the pulley.
I took off the old pump, can't see or hear anything wrong.
Not in the mood to spend almost $500 for new, untill I know my problem is infact the pump.
