? 454 ??Year? MOdel?
I have a 89 pantera. I read these #'s off the back of the motor... Im guessing its a 1997 block with 1989 parts on it such as ignition and so forth...
Its not a magnum ???
What generation is it 4???
HP?
Thanks

What makes you quess that it's a '97 block ? I don't see that number on any casting number charts anywhere. I will tell you though mark 4's were made from '65 to '90, gen 5's from '91 to '96 and after that was the gen 6. Does your block have a provision for a mechanical fuel pump on the starboard side of the block at the front. If so it is a mark 4. After that the fuel pump was either electric or it was a mechanical one mounted on the seawater pump.

The fuel pump and the water pump are one assembly driven by the belt.... I was guess it was a 97 from the last digits... But when i have been buying parts for it for the distributer, they have been saying 80's ignition so i am thinking it blew up and they put the old parts on the new block... the distributor doesnt have points...

This site here shows that casting number to be a gen 5 block.

And these other sites say it's a gen 6.

Looks like the only way you will ever know for sure is by getting into it. I wouldn't worry about it until your ready to do a rebuild or some upgrades. One thing we know, it's not a mark 4!!

correct me if i am wrong ,but i think gen4 blocks had [wet] head bolts, meaning that the head bolts protrude into the water jackets on the block.gen 5,6 had blind [dry ] head bolt holes.i have both and this is one of the diffrences, plus the rear main seal on gen4 is a two pc.gen 5,6 one pc.
