Default Any one had to make auto or boat claims with state farm???

I have car, truck, boat, life and renters ins. w/ state farm. I just witnessed there claims service on a girlfriends car, that had the wind blow the door open and bend the piller and door.2005 caddy. state farm stood ground on saying this did not happen from the wind and we will only pay X amount when the damage estimate was Z , twice as much. She has comp. and colission and so on. car is fixed for X amount and car has over spray all over and sanding marks in black paint. Body shop sais We were paid X amounrt that is as as far as we sand for X amount . If the insurance wants to pay more than we can go further with these issues. We had to use after market parts also for the door hinges. This was requested by Statefarm.

So my question is this what I can expect if I have a claim?

Do they really know what they are insuring in the boat market???

Who governs insurance to see that thier business is fair???

I am in the body shop business and deal with insurance companies everyday. State farm is one of the best and easiest to deal with. I have State Farm on all my vehicles also. Your problem is with the body shop and not State Farm. If the body shop feels there is not enough time to repair a vehicle correctly they can always put in a supplement for more time and parts. I have never heard of a shop telling a customer that. If they could not do the job right, they should not have done it at all. Take the car back to the shop with a list of all the stuff you want fixed and don't pick it back up till it is right. Also, call your adjuster and have them put some heat on this shop to repair your car correctly. Jeff Wurl

Aftermarket parts are pretty common place. In a lot of cases the aftermarket part is just as good or better than the factory piece. As to what you can expect if you have a claim???...pretty much the same type of service.

I was a claimant with State Farm about 3 years ago. A lady that hit me had State Farm and they were horrible to deal with. That said, there are definitely some better claims offices to deal with than others. I have heard good things about them in other areas.

As far as what they know about what they are insuring....well, it would all depend on if your agent underwrote the policy correctly and provided them the correct information about the risk. Most carriers don't deal well with the performance market and most are getting away from it because they don't price adequately for it.

Each state has an insurance commissioner or department that regulates insurance. You should be able to look them up fairly easily on the net for your state.

Default Insurance Claims

I disagree with the perception that all insurance carriers won't pay claims.I have my own homes and cars with them and they handle claims properly.I had a recent claim and a friend of mine had a major claim $250,000 windstorm claim that restored his home to better than new condition. The insurance carrier is CHARTIS PRIVATE CLIENT GROUP.

I have state farm for all my insurance and the two claims I've had were no problems at all in 2001 I totaled my motorcycle and had a check 2 days later for $800 more then I paid for it they called all the dealers within 200 miles to find out prices since it was exactly 3 months old I got full retail for payment plus they paid for my helmet that was damaged in the wreck. The second claim someone backed into my truck at he mall and did 3800 in damage to it called them up and it was fixed within the week and my rate didn't even go up . I've never had a boat claim so with that I don't know but with the overspray on your car I think thats a problem with the bodyshop not the insurance company

I have State Farm and they paid out a big claim on our boat due to a winter storm and a totaled out car. Very fair on both accounts and a pleasure to deal with.

Some carriers (in boat and auto market) offer OEM endorsements and full repair cost endorsements. Yes, they cost a bit more but the last one I added to an annual Mercedes policy for OEM parts endorsement was $45 a year in premium... so, if you have this endorsement, it changes the standard insurance policy to have to pay for full repair and not use aftermarket parts.

A couple years ago I was involved in an accident in Arizona .
I was Ok ( if anyone cares ) but my bike suffered over $ 16K in damage . I dealt with State Farm back home in Canada .
It was a battle but almost a year later they paid me in full .
They tried all the Blue Book Vaue crap with me .
I said it wasn't a problem whatever State Farm was not willing to pay I would collect the balance from the owner of the Van that caused the accident . The Agent says you can't go around threatening people . I said I was not threatening anyone just stating what was going to happen . Got my cheque a couple days later .

Had State Farm years ago, had someone break into my truck and home, they were terrible to deal with and didnt pay for squat. Switched to Auto Owners, have had a couple claims in the last 10 years, absolute pleasure to deal with. Unfortunately they wont insure my boat.
