Default Flame arrestor mesh

Can I buy the stainless mesh thats in a flame arrestor anywhere? Have oval billet air cleaners with K+N filters and heard the K+N stuff is really restrictive. Would like to replace it with mesh..........

Kevin,
I looked at doing this too, just never got around to it. I did run without once but didnt see a huge difference, although it was 100* air temp. I am going to be pissed if you get that tub to run mid 80's.

Gonna do my damnedest! Did you dyno the engines with or without these air cleaners Matt? When I took it out in November, 1 engine had left lots of black soot on the transom and my wife could smell fuel when running upper RPM. Im gonna atribute that to a clogged air bleed. Its happened to me before. It should have run on the lean side in 55 Degree weather, no? But you said it was set up to run fat, So I want to lean her out a bit......just alittle. I think the mesh will help get them heavy hitters some more air! Any recommendation on jetting down alittle?

You can make your own, be carefull and just a few wraps or you will restrict airflow.
Just dynoed a motor and lost 25 hp with a homemade screen, like 3 wraps and didnt appear restrictive to the eye

Thanks, did you fix the problem? How many wraps did you end up with?

I had a vaccum gauge under the carb, 19 inches at 6500 rpms, took flame arrester off dropped to 3.5 inches
