Default 502 EFI/MPI Injector Q

Can anyone tell me if the injectors are the same or different for the following motors:

454/502 385/415hp EFI/MPI
454 MPI 310hp
496 HO system

And, if they're different, what is the difference? Is it in the housing itself (meaning one won't plug into the other) or is it in the lbs./hour output of the injector?

I have been wanting to know this as well. I added an Procharger and may need to get bigger injectors.

To the best of my knowledge they will all plug and play in each of the various systems.

I have been told that the "stock" injectors are 37lb. by some people, and 42lb. by others. I'm not sure which is accurate.

It is my understanding that Rochester (Delphi) made the injectors from 1993-1998, and that someone else (I think Bosh) makes them from 1998-present.

Also, these are supposed to be the exact same injector as the auto injector, but I can't seem to get a cross reference on the part #'s. I was hoping one of the engine builders/dealers would chime in and provide some input.

I can't give you everything you are looking for, but I can say that with the exception of the 496mag/ho, the other injectors all use the same EV1 style (Bosch D-jetronic) injector connector. The 496mag/HO uses something completely different.

The first two pics below are the 496mag/HO, the next two are the Bosch D-Jet style.

Thanks Keith! Everything helps. The pics help a lot. It's tough to get good info on the subject.

I think I've sorted out the "old" vs. "new" issue, but it seems that within the two genres of injectors they should all be the "same."

The 805225A 1 injector (the "old" injector) fits the following models:

I don't see 500hp EFI listed, but I can't imagine that Merc would use the 415/385 hp injector on the 525 motor and not on the 500hp EFI motor.

IIRC, the 500HP/500EFI used a different injector part number, but the same connector. I don't know what difference in flow rate there might be.

My 1999 502 MPI had 42lb injectors. Serial number started with OL34. They looked like the Bosch ones pictured above.

Wink 496 injectors

On the 496 Mag and the 496Mag/Ho the injectors are Delphi Multec 2 type injectors with USCAR type plug in connectors. These injectors are totally different than the Bosch type used on the other Merc engine types mentioned and are not interchangeable. These Multec 2 Delphi injectors are 440cc injectors and at the stock 43-45 psi they operate at they are approximately 37lb/per hour injectors.
In the Raylar 496 kits we up the fuel pressure to 50psi where these injectors will flow approximatly 46lbs/hr.
Raylar also stocks and uses a 550cc and 650 cc versions of these injectors for engines of over 570HP in the 496 (8.1L) builds.

Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar
