Default 2011 30' O/B Model-Nice

I had sent Will Smith a message regarding his build of a new 30' OB model, so he gave me the green light to post the pictures of the new 30', and some information, directly from Will,

"the intro price is 48K hull-deck-tank-interior no-power for the new O/B Sportster.
I can build a lighter all foam no wood version for 10k more; and for a lighter boat with the more expensive materials and the extra labor (for all the vacuum bagging involved) I can get the weight down to 1600 lbs or less. This boat loves the weight on the transom so the O/B(s) are going to work very well, and the handling should be excellent, if anyone wants to call me reach me at 941-351-3760 USA." (edited)

So if you want one, call him. With the price of fuel as it is now, not a bad option. Expected to run in the 90's mph out of the box with a target of 100 mph when dialed-in with twin Mercury 300XS outboards; not too shabby.

From Will, "it will be 4000 LBS rigged with 2-300xs with a full fuel tank, the hull weighs 1950 LBS now." (Posted with his permission) For those that do not know (most of you do know if your are in the Phantom section), the hole(s) on the side of the boat (one hole on each side of the boat) sucks the air in, and the multiple holes you see on the bottom is where the air is directed. Will Smith's step-bottom, it works, it aerates the bottom very effectively.

More from Will, " This is the brand new deck for outboards for the 30' race hull, I built this for the outboard lovers every where, this is the first one and it even has a cabin."

And, "the back 3' of the boat is water tight and the transom is raised so the 20" motors on 26" centers will completely surface and if you go with 25" motors you are up 3" and with the transom notch it should be an animal." WS (Will Smith)

"On 26" centers, the 20" 300xs would surface nicely but for all round performance and ski racing use 25" motors for the hole shot." WS

I like it. Going down to see it in April and discuss possible build of a light single outboard version.

Per Will, "this will surface a single 25" outbard for all out speed but a 30" would work all round performance."

Huh?--I wasn't aware of any 30" outboards. They only make them in 20 and 25" shafts. I'm looking @ using a 20" 300xs that I have on another boat.

They make 30" shaft outboards. A lot of offshore boats run the 30".
