Default switchable exaust

Hi,
I'm a french guy and i have a baja force 265 with a mercruiser 454 330hp
i would buy a switchable exhaust but is it possible to run with the exhaust in closed position or not?
Or is the closed position is only for idle?
Thanks a lot

ps : excuse me for my poor english

Yes, you can run with the system closed. That is just the same as what you are doing now, so to speak. Are you looking at the merc Silent Choise, Corsa Captains Call or ???

Aren't there rpm limits as to when you run closed versus having to open it up? I didn't think you could run closed at speed. Maybe you can with a 454, don't know.

I've been told by my local merc mech. that the 496 should be opened up at about 3000-3500 rpm's, but I've never heard of a problem with the 454/330. All in all, there should not be issues running closed at cruising speeds. I honestly don't get this. What is the diff. if you buy a boat without thru hull exhaust, then you don't have a choise. Why all of a sudden, when you have the option, you should not run closed above 3000-3500 rpm's.
